WHAT TRANSIT?

Postby will-biker » Fri Jun 10, 2011 6:21 pm

hi all,

My name is will, I'm 21 and I have had a transit connect for about 1 year. As you are aware (due to my age) I am not able to tow over 750kg without taking a trailer test which I plan to take in a few weeks.

After looking up the towing capabilities of my connect, I was amazed that it has a maximum towing weight of 800kg!!

I have very limited knowledge of transits so it would be great if I could get a few suggestions from you guys of models that would be suitable for me.

It needs to be:
short wheel base - ideally the smallest transit larger than a long wheel base Connect.
Smallest/most efficiently diesel engine - as practical as possible.
year 2000 - 2006 (newer shape starts after 2000 (i think))
Tow reasonable weight - eg caravans, small plant equipment (1200Kg or 1400 kg ish)

What models do I need to be looking out for? My budget is about £3000

Thanks very much

To tow decent weights you really need a RWD Transit, so you really need a Transit 330 RWD, sometyhing like an ex RAC van would fit the bill, You cant have big towing ability and the 2.0l engine I'm afraid.
