Here are a couple of Police Transits (North Yorkshire) photographed in about 1996. The F reg was a task force van with a 2.9efi engine with the overdrive 'box, and the J reg was a 2.5Di 4x4 County (WITH NO POWER STEERING!!!) which was used as a mibile control room (until very recently!). The county was actually manufactured in 1986 but NYP didn't actually register it until '92.

Shortly after the Mk111 V6s arrived with NYP (the first ones were 3 litre Essex's) they were fitted with speed limiters after some idiot complained of a speed wobble at 100mph and asked for the tyres to be balanced.... The garage pointed out that the speed rating for the tyres wuz 85mph and from that point on that's all they would do! 85 in 3rd, 85 in 4th and 85 in overdrive!

No paower steering eh? What's your point?

It really was a bit of a camel to drive! I have an '88 Mk111 with no power steering, my Mk11 didn't have any, and a few Mk11's I drove at work with the ol Yorkie diesel in didn't have power steering, and they were all ok, but this thing was a pig!

my trany mk3 3ltr has a govener fitted i think they all do ,it is only 100bhp low comp engine, but if you want them to go like stink then fit a carb off of a capri,but finding one isnt easy! i must admit mine is heavey ish on the steering! and the mk1 is lighter and has bigger tyres! i think it might be the heavyer engine!

I would say it was the heavier engine too, it's got 2 more pistons after all, with all that goes with it!
