A home made camper from Finland

Postby aki74 » Thu Sep 28, 2006 5:23 pm

Here's one I went to see today. They had a eight years old picture of it on the ad wich made it more tempting than it was in reality.

First years it has probably done a real job. Then it joiden the circus to get the paintings it has (Circus Finlandia). Then some group bought it and drove around the europe with it, even all the way down to Spain. From that time there is a fridge, sink and cooker. Then some girlfriend made them sell it to the current owners. They have had it for five years wich the last one it has been standing still. Rear arches and side skirts have been welded and poorly filled and painted over with a roller

The price might be 300-400 euros but I'll skip it for the amount of paintwork and interior it would need. It's driveable tough and I quess it could pass the MOT quite easy.

The scrap value would be higher, the headlamp bowls look rather good, the indicator lens again re-sale and that roof rack I know (well I think) Fred would take that.
Looks like it has the overnight water heater like they fit in Canada, so that has a value, couple that with the wheels you should buy it and strip it down to parts. The front wings that I can see from the angle look to be good too and they fetch a premium on Ebay. If you have the space, seriously don't hestate ...buy it!

The phone might have worked someday but I quess it's outdated now. Those were NMT phones and it's all GSM today. But it looks cool anyway.

I would have the space for it but according to my wife I don't. Go figure!

None of you commented on the renaming of the van...take another look at the first picture, it isn't a Ford anymore it is a ROD!

I didn't even notice! It does have a another name too, "TORSO". Don't know why. It means the same in finnish as it does in english. Maby it's a bit unfinished, left as torso of a car... dunno.

@Aki: Do you know what year and engine? And is that an engine block heater cable sticking out of the grille? This MK1 should be saved!

Where's the exact location in Finland? And does the owner speak english?
