This is what I say, it's a bit like the old days... there'd be scrapyards full of fords with rotton bodies and mint motors, yet there'd be scrapyards full of other none rotten stuff with fecked motors, bit like the mk5, mk6 debate.... rotten old mk5's and solid mk6's... all in the scrapyard for their own reasons

The rear cross-member on mk6 -7 vans (below the rear doors ) never rusts now this is the bit that takes a right load of hammering , i say this because on my mk6 there was very little paint left on this panel plus it had lost its shape and held water round the lock keeper . but when you look under the van in this location there will no doubt be rust showing , so my question is - do they spray the anti corrosion on or dip the body ??? , any why does this rear panel never seem to go bad different metal

Yep that panel is a Galv panel on the mk6 ! my jumbo has taken a forklift dent in that panel and you can see the Galv !

And that's on a W plate! id be prepared to compare it against any mk5

Hmmm Might eat humble pie on your one Andy ! But then yours has been treated very well by yourself i bought my W plate mk6 as a non runner and up to it's axles in mud

Ok heres an interesting point lets look at it this way Bellys mk6 is near perfect AndyG's MK5 Is Perfect now which you would prefer.

I know my choice AndyG's MK5 wins hands down

don't get me wrong AndyG's van is very nice ! i've also spotted some very tidy mk5's this week my old R reg 190 mk5 was quite tidy too but it did let me down loads and i spent a fair bit on it ! the way i look at it is if your a local jobber ie: stay in your own towns and surrounding areas a mk5 is a good cheap workhorse but i feel they need to be tidy and presentable, image can be everything If you contract all over the place you need to have something a bit more refined on the motorways! so a mk6 at the least really i'd also say if you do see rusty mk6's it's normally only swb vans in white and dare i say it built in Southampton and the mk5/mk6 thing well it's always cheaper to fix mechanicals than get bodywork done ! properly i might add as for mk6/mk7 mk7 ftw everytime

My mk6 is bubbling on the wings behind the headlights........... ain't gonna fix it should have one of those funny looking mk7's soon enough.

and then i'll be a hypocrite, as i still don't like the look of them
