Aye but the van in the first post was (at the time), the oldest working transit

I wonder what the current holder of this title is?

This was in use in 85, but as I say hasn't been in use for a while as it hasn't had tax since 87.

The GEC Transit is just wrong......

GEC never ran Transits.....Only Bedfords

The Black/Yellow colour scheme came out in Aug. 1973

GEC Elliott Traffic Automation was not formed until 1971

I wonder why this van has been painted and liveried

totally wrong?

I worked for GEC 1970-1975 driving their Bedfords. 8)

From the photo of the GEC yellow and black Transit, i noticed that it has only one side ventilator, I thought that all early vans had 2 ventilators, even mine which is 68 model has 2. Even Peter lee's has 2. In my opinion the driver's side ventilator is the most scarse and i don't think one could order it with 1 or 2 ventilators. I also hav'nt seen a Mk2 with 2 vents. I hope the Gec van is not a jigsow puzzle made up.
I m not against it or something but that's what forums are for to give opinions and be corrected and so learn from others.

Old Vans

Postby tranorak » Tue Sep 18, 2007 12:26 pm

I have a SWB panel van first registered 25-1-66 so probably made in 65. :D To say it needs Major restoration is an understatement :( The good news is its a one owner van (until me) still signwritten allover and completely original. :D The company ran it from new till '79 when it got too rusty to carry on, been laid up since. I fancy doing the neccessary welded repairs but no respray, sort of a 'rat-look' jobber.
