old thread...

but what does the center link bar do ? the one fixed to the axle ?

it looks like both ends of it are fixed directly to the van chassis... so they won't move on the ends...


all I can think is, it's to keep the diff central.... but I can't imagine it would want to move sideways much anyway ?

It is very popular Watt's linkage rear suspension - especially in sport cars, but not only (for ex. Mazda RX7). Sometimes it is called bar-system "Z".

In Marcin Wicik's drift-bus, bar-stabilizer is taken from Transit-tipper version.
Diff is stabilized also by lengthways bars - two on one side.
Diff works with McPherson dumper (Bilstein).

This type of suspension (with bulky diff) has good charakteristic on way - fast answer for bump and good adherence.
