Mk1 Bonnet removal

Postby Southerner » Wed Sep 07, 2005 1:17 pm

Hi - I'm going to need to reseat the bonnet on my mk1 diesel minibus, is there anything I should know about doing this, I've had a quick look at it and there seems to be 2 bolts either side? For those of you that have done this before is there anything I should watch out for? Day off tomorrow, kids in playschool, I'm hoping to get alot done. Thanks in advance for your help. Andy.

Thanks Mark, I need to bring it forward just a little to stop it scraping on the panel in front of the windscreen, if I can get away with just adjusting it I think that'll be one, Cheers.

Good tip with the tipex, well worth doing as it took a couple of goes to get right. Thanks, Andy.

ajusting that bonnet

Postby john leeman » Fri Sep 09, 2005 10:03 am

once ajusted, don't forget the bonnet lock pin may be out of place too, this may need ajusting too. loosen the big locking nut where it screws into the bonnet its self, align before you shut the bonnet down, grease the pin too. good luck.

Thanks John, the pin was out to start with - so much so the bonnet popped twice whilst driving it home, no catch meant it flew right up to windscreen driving at 50mph. Not a big problem except the windscreen wiper on the nearside put a large dent into it. Grrr. Realigning the bonnet got the pin better as well but I'll double check its right on. I will grease it though as I didn't do that. Cheers, Andy.
