Single wheel.
And that another problem....
Tyres seem to chafe on rim edges, on long trips, running 8ply tyres

This sounds like a tracking problem, at least with the single wheel any tyre place should be able to fix it, TW are more difficult (so I am told, but others seem to use this as an excuse not to have to do it!)

Both back tyres, could have been the swiss alps(last week) as thats when i first noticed the problem, maybe to much body roll, too much side wall flex?

ah back tyres - oftern a problem with the high top coachbuilt campers!
the springs are never uprated - they dont need to be due to the weight- but because of the height it multiplies strain and they wear out quicker!!
a bit of useful info here!!

Was going to take some left springs from donor car/van and strong one to back and next strongest one to the front springs, see what that does.
Will the diff head out of a sierra fit my single axel transit?
With the type 9 replacing the 4spd i've finally got about 60mph(sat nav)so passing trucks is not an option if needed.
So would like to keep this sort of speed or more.(cant imagin going over 70 in her)

Hope i dont get so much body roll(G/F says we lean like on the bike while cornering)

out of a mk1 mondeo! are they 16v :? not 100% sure its the right engine!!

Nope have a Mk1 mondeo TD and it the same engine as me Mk4 escort but with added gadgets like an AFM and ECU, the sierra engine i have is the same as the escort (except it's turbo'd) no AFM or ecu i think the later ecu'd engines are called the endura (sp?)

Mondeo has intercooler too, which i think would be best to install as well. If my type 9 was in good condition and knew the box would mate up to the mondeo engine i would buy a mondeo for parts instead.

mondeo gearbox is same as zetec box and a zetec engine will fit on a type 9box.they put zetec's in mk1/2 escorts with a type9.so it should fit now has anyone tried to put a zetec in a transit rs2000 engine in a mk1 tranny will be nice.or mondeo zetec 2litre or a mondeo v6 engine in a tranny.

If i had a good type9, the zetec would be the best way to go. Are these engine easy to re loom?

I was also thinking about a zetec for mine but was put off by the fact that they are designed around fwd in the layout and when there fitted in the mk1&2 escorts you have to alter the pipework or cut the bulkhead away!! still possable and getting one is cheep enough, good engine!!!
wiring would be tricky for a novice - just depends how confident with it you are!!! :D

by the way RS2000 engine is not a zetec its an I4-16V
just some people dont know that!!! :D thats all!! :D

the Zetec is expensive cos of the modified water rail you need for RWD :(
The mondeo TDi has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as all fords since 1950 sumink the new duratec is different (mazda unit i think)
