could someone help me, i have a 1981 mk2 transit and when i srart the engiine it starts up but won't run and cuts out. i have an idea that it's the balast resistor. it has been standing for about 9 months and has been run for about 45 min. every month and has plenty of fuel and petrol is getting through to the carb. any help would be apprieciated. regards dave
hi ,the way to tell if its the ballast resitor is hold the key on when you start it,if it revs up then cuts out as soon as you let go of the key its the ballast resitor!
I don't ever remember dealing with points, and we once had a V reg, though we did th e'nose job' on her, and might have done the leccy ignition at the same time.
thanks guys for your help. i bought a new balast resistor from our local ford dealer and it solved the problem, next time this happens i will look out for a mk2 at a breakers yard rather than buy one from ford as it cost me £25 regards dave
