Really stiff Mk1 sliding doors, and missaligning locks

Postby browneye » Tue Oct 18, 2005 1:38 pm

Hey all, Im from Australia, just get myself a wicked little tranist, and im fixing her up for an east coast surf trip in january.

Was wondering if anyone can help me out,

My sliding doors are very very stiff, is it simply a case of cleaning them or taking them off and oiling them or something? or will i need some parts from the wreckers or something?

Also the with the sliding doors being able to lock open so that you can drive around with em open 8) (im gonna love it in summer) mine dont line up anymore and the door seams to have sagged, (this prob mite link with the stiff doors one) and they no longer lock in place...

Anyone else had this isse with their Mk1?

Cheers,
Browny.

if its the same as a UK mk1,the top runners are plastic rollers that run along the track, well over the years they wear down until the rollers carrier which is steel starts touching the track making it hard to slide, they were never the best for sliding thats why on the mk2 Fords changed the top track completely and added bearings  ,when these rollers wear the door naturally drops.hope this helps  oh and by the way yes they do lock in the open position and when open better than any aircon, just look out for wasps flying up your shorts while driving
