Low power/torque at low rev's

Postby GMC » Fri Oct 21, 2005 10:29 pm

Hello again all,

some help please with an on going 'niggling' problem.

My '96 2.5Di tranny suffers from low power/torque at low rev's (below 2500rpm).

Getting it upto speed through the gears is hard work, especially when towing, but once above 2500rpm, (about 55mph) it's stays there all day long!

I know it's down on power at low revs as I've driven transits for years.

Here's what I've done so far :

1. Disconnected the EGR valve
2. De-coked the inlet throttle and inlet manifold, which was choked with carbon.

This made a small difference, but not what I thought.

I don't want to rush into new/overhauled pump without being sure it's at fault.

What about then injectors ????

The van has covered 170,000 miles with an extensive service history, but the engine is definitely sound as it can do 3000 hard miles (towing) with only a small oil top up, and goes through no water.

Any help would be appreciated.
