EGR leaking oil

Hello,

I was reading the post on disconnecting the EGR and when I looked at mine it was leaking oil down the inlet into the air filter. My vacuum control valve was broken so I stuck it back together with araldite but it still leaks oil down when it's stopped - no oil leak when it's running. Can anyone shed any light on this? The only place I can see it could come from is up the oil filler pipe. Mine's a banana engine.

oil is most probably condensing vapour from crankcase combustion, has it done many miles? look up previous egr threads, disconnect all the gubbins, clean out manifold and inlet ports, i carefully scrapped out the soot with a scrapper and a hoover to save having to do a full on head decoke. the soot from the exhaust mixes with oil vapour and clogs the poor old inlet manifold up. my engine doesnt breath heavy but to save cleaning the manifold again i have removed pipe from oil filler to manifold and blocked it up, i then ran a piece of pipe from oil filler to a plastic 1 pint milk bottle on top of n/s chassis rail, to catch any drips, runs purrrfect as for mots no problems as there are no specific euro 2/3 emmisions rules for this age van

Thanks, I think you're right but I seem to use oil like nobody's business though it doesn't seem to be burning it (no clouds of blue smoke) so I thought the pipe must be sucking too hard & taking up actual engine oil. I cut a hole in the oil filler pipe near the manifold end to reduce the suction - it seems to have worked, though doing as you say would work the same way I reckon.
