little red light

Hello,
My first silly question(i have many more),is the red led that flashes above the rearview mirror in my 1998 transit an alarm/immobiliser indicator or
a flux-capacitor warning light .Seriously,what does it do,I have asked two transit owners and the outfit I bought it from,nobody seems to
know.

Thought it might be MrMpuck,thanks for the reply,do u know if its a good immobiliser,I've bought a steering lock just in case.How could the dealer not know that????
