WATER LEAKS Mk1

Does anyone understand where the rain is meant to go after it comes down the gutters on the screen pillars??? On mine it pours in that slot above the wing and soaks everywhere ~ must be why Mk1's are always so rotten in the A post/bulkhead area. Seems like it ought to be going down the middle of the divider half way up the wing and dripping neatly out just before it reaches the back of the headlight. Ford seemed mad keen on those big globs of chewing gum stuff at seam joins, I wonder if there should be one up in the far corner of the wing where the water arrives? Does anyone know

Has it had new wings fitted my mk1 was the same Im going to have to take the offside wing off who ever put it on did it badly it catches the door when you open it, But I've got some seam sealer and put that in the nearside one to try and make a chanel to take the water away from running down the the bulkhead as like you say its a bad water trap dont know if it will work till I get it in the rain

guys i have problems with my n/s wing filling up with water , if you put your and in you can feel its like a fishpond sometimes! the wing has a dran hole in it but it block easy so i have to keep an eye on it! is this what you are talking about ????? if so you will need to clear the drain hole out with a screwdriver ! its near the front close to the headlamp bowl!

My front wings are the originals so only Henry Ford to blame for it. The van has never lived out of doors till now so theres no rot yet but I can see it soon will, the way rain pours in. All the rain that comes off the roof comes down the screen pillars then straight in the wings. Seems like a dum arrangement to me. Might just have to dowse it all in waxoil and hope for the best?? I've stuck me head inside the wing during rain and its Alarming. Might try to bodge up some sort of funnel?? Wondered if theres an answer apart from keep the thing indoors but thats not an option for me sadly.

waxoil is great stuff this will help before the rust gets in, the other option is run a sealer in the join were the wing meets the windscreen panel ,is that were the water is going ?????

Yeah thats where it gets in. Looks like its designed to! Reluctant to bog it up with sealer, as I like the 'original' look but maybe rust is the price you pay...

Don't go anywhere near it with silicone if you every want to do any paint!

Get some proper seam sealer you can paint over it ok

i have noticed my wing fills up with water so it must run down through the gap and drain off through the wing near the headlamp! make shure the drain hole is not blocked and the waxoil it and you should be ok mate!

I sealed the gap between wings and scuttle and the water then runs down the outside of the wing and away.I also found that the water channels on the inside edge of the wings on mine and a lot of other transits are short of the front panel and let rain water run down and fill the bonnet landing panel.Extending them so that water can run out helps.The other water entry point at the fromt is under the back edge of the bonnet where it often ends up on the air cleaner and electrics,a bit of rubber was stuck on the bonnet originally to stop it,it doesn't really work.I think it safe to say the waterproofing qualities of the Mk1's front panels are pretty apalling and probably account for the early demise of so many of them with chronic inner wing,bulkhead and chassis rot.

Thanks for the great info guys - found my fishponds and drain holes this weekend - cleared them out and the water runs away perfectly. Its good to know where its going to keep an eye on and to make sure the Waxoil is thick here. My water channels on the wings are short too, hadn't noticed this either so I'll be extending those soon.
