problems starting

I have a transit van with no glow plugs ,each time there is a cold spell I have problems starting ,even bought a new battery ,is there anything i can do before stsrting to remedy this problem and to get me started on these cold mornings.

Have a look over on the Mk3 board, you don't say what year yours is, but the principle is the same.

im guessing its a Di - how does it start normally , a Di in decent nick should start instantly! if it doesnt that will be the problem - and only get worse when its cold!! :D

Its a d R reg 2 .500 cc had a new heavy duty diesel battery fitted lasdt week but still probns starting on cold mornings

Yeah is it just slow turning or does it turn away merrily with no fire-up ??

I would guess that its either a fuel starvation problem or the starter is dragging to many Amps.

cold start

it turns over merrily but no fire up,someone said press twice on accelerator then turn ignition key

if it is strater dragging too many amps how do i go about correcting this,anyway thanks guys for your help

If it turns over pretty quick then the starter if fine...

It may be just as simple as replacing the Fuel filter, which is the first thing I would suggest as its cheap.

Replace it. It might just be behaving like a flat battery cos of the starter.
