Hi ,does anyone know where we can get a new solenoid for our 1972 v4 transit, its seperate from the starter and mounted on the inner wing. thanx.

Try transitgeoff or midniteclassix for 2nd hand, if not do a web search for classic parts, or even see if any other Fords hused the same solenoid, maybe cortina?

you should be able to use any 12v solenioid - the bigger the better!! :D

im not sure yours is V4??? if you will be able to fit a later startermotor with solenoid attached if it will phisically fit! :D

mini ones are a lucas solienoid.or most 12 volt ones will fit.that look similar.

The later ones are on the starter motor Luke.

Also the Rover SD1 used them for door lock relays, kid you not, located in right side of boot, remove carpeted side cover and you should see two of these in there

If you struggle to get one from a scrappy etc there's a place in the west mids called 'Speedy Spares' that do lots of stuff for older vehicles, they do mail order too, like others have said just about any 12v solenoid will do the job as they were all pretty similar.

The best ones were(if you can still get one) the ones with a rubber button in the middle......you could put the ignition on and start the vehicle from under the bonnet......obviously an advantage if you are working there!
