Cranking but no start HELP!

Postby minishep » Wed Aug 05, 2020 6:06 am

Hey there, hope you are all well. I have a 2004 2.4TDCI LWB 135 Manual Van. Drove to work this morning started fine and all was well. Jumped in the van at lunch and it was sluggish to start, plenty of cranking power but not firing. then it did fire and only ran for about 20 seconds before it died. I tried again a couple of times and the same thing. Now it just cranks over with no firing at all. Battery and starter is all good, both replaced not long ago. Feels like fuel, possibly lift pump. When i check the fuse/relay box for the lift pump relay there isnt one??? I plugged in the laptop with the Forscan software and no codes were displayed. Just some background, about 18months ago I replaced all 4 injectors and the fuel filter and the van has been running like a dream ever since.

Any help would be much appreciated...

Did you run the van low on fuel at some point recently? Could there be air or water in the fuel circuit?

Other than that, I'd still check the voltage on the batteries, alternator, and at the starter (solenoid).

Another potential issue could be the air intake, and the air filter.

As a side note, an engine shutting off by itself could be any number of bad signs and I would personnally refrain from trying too much before knowing what it is as I would fear it could get damaged.

Good luck!

I would check the fuel filter for water contamination, and at the same time you’ll use the hand pump on the top of the filter to ensure no air in the system. Otherwise it sounds like the diesel pump or the ecu on top of it. Is the immobiliser light flashing at all?
