Right got it all back togther, and guess what :?:
it won't start, Bugger
Checked the timing untold times and it' spot on, thing is i can turn the engine over using the (seized) fan, should i be able to or have i cracked a piston/bent a valve, there is compression cause you can feel it building up as you trun it but a mech i spoke to earlyer reckons there no way i should be able to turn the engine buy hand and to be honist i've never tried before :(
any ideas chaps, failing that anyone got a di going cheep
no not doing a bird impression

I'm baffled by this.......whats the engine doing now?

I've done hundreds of snapped belts on Di's over the last ** years and haven't had one not run after.

How did you do the tappets after you built it back up......please tell me you didn't use the old skool rule of 9 :?

How do you set a Di then mate? :D
I've changed heads ect but allways kept the rods in a bit of card to keep em in order so never had to find out how to do it to know it was different (if you follow) :)
Never known it either but then most people i spoke to were also surprised i managed to snap both cetre posts on the rocker shaft with out actually bending the shaft itself

The correct way to adjust the clearences on the 2.5 Di is

Open valves completely--------------------------Adjust valves
1 and 6......................................................... 4 and 7
2 and 3 .........................................................5 and 8
4 and 7 .........................................................1 and 6
5 and 8 .........................................................2 and 3

The clearences are 0.20mm (inlet) and 0.40mm (exhaust), thats about 8 and 15 thou in old money

Doing the old 1 down adjust 8 thing gets the clearences all wrong because of the cam angles.
