2.4 rwd front engine mounts

Postby Steve192 » Mon Jan 24, 2022 11:56 pm

Hi people,

I need to replace the front 2 engine mounts on my mk7 2.4 rwd (the 2 bolted to the front cross member) I’ve had a search on here and elsewhere online but can’t find a decent diagram or guide on how to remove the cross member.

Does the cross member have anything else attached to it other than the engine mount points?

I know I need to remove the bolt from the lower gearbox mount going through the cross member to the gear box then remove the 2 bolts (from above) on the front 2 engine mounts, holder the engine up with a jack and bit of wood. But can anyone help me with removing the cross member bolts?

It’s a long time since I did my mk6 but I think I just undid the bolts and jacked the engine up and they came out or I may have unbolted of the mountings on the block and did one at a time but didn’t remove the cross member .

Don't need to touch gbox mount.

Take out 4 bolts on each engine mount through the subframe.

I used a small ratchet strap under sump hooked onto chassis rails to hold engine up.
Remove two main bolts through subframe into chassis legs and drop whole cross member out.

Remove mounts from engine brackets
Fit new mounts loosely till al bolts are back in place then tighten them all up.

Nothing else attached to it from memory, (unless you've been a Muppet and welded a front diff mount to it)

Cheers mate, I was going to attack this this weekend but my other van had issues so that took priority. I’m going to give a go this weekend
