04 Connect Instrument cluster won’t turn off.

Postby 777Rav » Wed Jun 29, 2022 3:45 pm

Hi All,

I’m having an issue (another one!!!) with my 2004 Tddi Connect.

The battery was going flat after a few days so I’ve done some fault finding. There is a 400mA drain which appears to be coming from the instrument cluster. If I remove the 10A F20 fuse from the engine bay the reading drops to 6mA.

I’ve noticed that when I lock the van up the instrument panel (mileage readings) are not disappearing even after a few hours which I’m pretty sure they should.

Pulling the fuse blanks the readings when the ignition is off and also stops the interior light from working.

I’ve used Forscan to read the codes and nothing is showing.

Anyone have any idea of what could be causing this and how it could be resolved. As soon as the fan is started the instrument cluster appears to function normally.

Thanks.

That last line should say “Van” not “Fan”……for the avoidance of confusion!!

I think that’s what I’m going to end up doing. Having said that I’m not really sure that other than the flashing immobiliser light it really “does” anything. The van seems to run perfectly fine with the fuse pulled and all appears to operate normally. I was hoping someone maybe able to tell me why it isn’t switching off though……

Could someone with a similar vintage Connect please tell me how long after they lock their van the dash mileage switches itself off. It’s very difficult trying different things waiting up to half an hour to see if it’s worked. Thanks.

Well I've just spent 20 mins looking at mine for you ...that's as long as i waited ..the mileage reading did not switch off .

Think i read somewhere when this fault is present, the instruments glow with a dullish glow...or dull ley ..how do you spell that ?
Mine is only used at the weekends and the battery is old and does not go flat .

Thanks for that Mark,

20 minutes of your life you’ll never get back! Sorry…..

Before you go to unlock it next time you use it can you peer through the window and see if the mileage is showing.

Cheers.

Thanks Mark!

Just need to work out why my van doesn’t want to “go to sleep” as it were……

Need a wiring diagram…..time to trawl the net.

Hi,
Was wondering whether you had managed to sort problem, as I now have similar problem. I have a 2007 Transit with an auto sleeper motorhome on back.
The batteries went almost flat, just had enough to start but only just. I then charged up batteries on vehicle. We then noticed after that, that the instrument cluster stayed on all the time even when vehicle was switched off and locked.
We had batteries checked and ended up fitting new leisure battery (damaged cell) and front vehicle battery. Problem still persisted. Removed the fuse and cluster goes off, refit fuse and it comes on and stays on again.
My mechanic found and replaced blown fuse for diagnostic port. Interior light then worked which it never had before! Plugged in his diagnostic device and it said fault with instrument cluster and fault with door ajar switch. Cleared everything and it comes back with just fault with door ajar switch. However, instrument cluster is still on all the time. When door is closed the 'door open' warning light on panel goes off and interior light (which had never previously worked) goes off, so switch must be working.
We don't know what to try next, so any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.

Unfortunately I made no progress at all with this so I just keep the instrument cluster fuse unplugged which “solves” the battery drain issue. The van is off the road again now anyway as the Diesel timing solenoid needs replacing and I can’t find the enthusiasm to fix it right now.

If Mk6 TDDi it will log P0149 & p1654 "FIP" fault codes....will also have horrible diesel rattle most of the time.
