Thank you Ned and knobby1 for all your help

As Ned mentions, loosen the oil pressure switch first as they're a pig to do if you don't have a way to hold the assembly when it's off the engine..... the new coolers with the metal oil filter don't come with new bolts either...you may find one or two bolts will be too short depending on the make of the unit, (most are Chinese), just a matter fo getting a couple from your local bolt place to suit. I have one fitted on my 2.4 and it works fine.

I found out the hard way about the pressure switch lol that’s why it took me an hour, had to clamp the old cooler in the vice to get the switch out, iirc there are 2 long and 1 short bolt, using the old bolts it was a straight swap.

Tip use a bit of thread lock on the pressure switch to stop it leaking a bit.

You’ll need 7L of oil as well as 6L of coolant (after you have flushed the cooling system) I used Prestone green coolant/antifreeze from toolstation.

Also take a note of the numbers on the spin on filter for future reference.

Thanks knobby1
I’ve been told o need to change all the associated hoses and thermostat
What do you reckon about going this ? Is it crucial?

UMM unless you buy ford ones ..you may be doing yourself a disfavour.
cleaning should get all of it out ...just run it for a couple of weeks on strait water ..and flush when you see contaminants ..when you're happy ..that there is non in it add the antifreeze .

Wonder if knobbies green antifreeze is the same as --What i remember as bright luminous green antifreeze ..That was the best..was sold as Unipart at the time, and developed for mixed metal engines....i used it until i could not get it anymore ..no corrosion ever happened with it

But ford have brought out a new yellow antifreeze they say is good for 10 years or 200,000 miles - which is made by Prestone and also available as Prestone ..so they are saying.

all the best.markl

We don't need "antifreeze" here in QLD, Australia. I use Nulon Coolant/corrosion inhibitor, proper Aussie made stuff....works brilliantly and lasts for yonks.... I use it in all my vehicles, motorcycles included.

Sorry it was Ned not you knobby

That luminous green stuff stuff i used to use was banned because it contained phosphate ester, like creosote and red lead and high VOC paints nothing quite does the job after they were stopped.

Aye any solvent white gloss will yellow within 6 months these days, I only use quick dry gloss now so it stays white.

That yellow coolant Ford use looks orange to me, well it looks orange in the puma, I use the bright green prestone as toolstation is within spitting distance from my house lol

done the first two flushes and there’s not much oil coming out now
I will give another flush in a few days
I cleaned reservoir out with some petrol ,remove reservoir block the holes put half a cup of petrol
In and shake it around then rinse with water , does a good job

Taken long to reply been super busy , have a good weekend chaps
Cheers
