Did you check the pads as per your other thread ?
Have you driven it at all ?
The pedal feel on a mk7 with discs all round can be very different to a mk6 with rear drums.
When the pedal is pressed while stood,with engine running there seems to be more travel,
(Lots of people complained on the introduction of mk7 saying pedal would nearly creep to floor if held while stood)
In reality on the road you never press the brakes like that,and brakes work fine.
Also,If the pads are in correctly,make sure handbrake levers are returning fully to the stops on callipers,and the handbrake cable is not pulling tension on them,then stamp the brake pedal as hard as you can while rolling slowly backwards and forwards,then retry it.(as if doing a full on emergency stop)
