mk7 transit just clicks when trying to start

when turn the key the lights on dash appear fine and go off after self tests

when trying to fire just can here a solenoid click? and nothing happens

is the starter motor bad? anything i can check before ordering

Ignition switch is a common fail.

If you can get to the solenoid on the starter motor, short out the two lugs and see if that gets it turning.

1. Low battery is the most common reason for the click no start, that's if the click is coming from the starter itself,..which can be battery not charging or battery at the end of life, or van not driven for a long time - more than a month.(charge with charger )
Freezing cold conditions, where a battery that is failing would show itself.
Solution: get the battery tested and charging system checked - FOR FREE at a battery retailer ..such as a tyre exhaust centre , Halfords or motorists shop.

2. Other reasons bad connections, earths, battery terminals, battery posts, starter terminals. which would mean; you will be taking battery terminals off and cleaning them, undoing other terminals and cleaning them ..looking at earthing points.

There are many more ..but will leave you with these for now....as i think these are 80 percent more likely
