Mk7 Abs and esp lights on after MOT

Postby Doubledave » Wed Dec 20, 2023 6:27 pm

Hi
New on here, I’ve got a mk7 2010, much loved and well looked after.
Story goes..
In for MOT, no real problems need a track Rod ,( done and serviced privately by mechanic)
Pick it up, get couple of hundred yards, lights come on.
Go back, guy plugs it In removes codes.. off I go again,
Same happens, back again, Guy is stumped .
Steering wheel not completely straight, so after looking on your forum, said to guy, he straightened steering, still the same??
Garage waiting for an auto leccy to come out, but not till after Christmas.
So I’ve got van back for now, and hopefully someone on here’s got some ideas??
Thanks..

Not had new tyres by any chance..?? All ABS sensors ok..??

Was the SAS recalibrated once the steering was played with..?? If the steering wheel is not straight ahead, the system "thinks" the vehicle is going around a corner and then the wheel speeds don't make sense to it when you're going in th straight line...hence the ABS & ESP lights.

Hi
Cheers for reply, not sure about the sas? Not sure if they did, but I doubt it.
Is it done electronically via the obd port ?
No tyres have been on a while and it was fine before MOT ?

You'll need Forscan or IDS to recalibrate the SAS. Make sure the steering wheel points straight ahead when driving straigh before you do it though....otherwise it will still have the fault light on.

You could do with posting the fault codes present while light is on.
More likely the ABS wiring has been disturbed or damaged during the T.R.E. Repair.

The light will come on if steering wheel is not straight while driving,
But usually only at higher road speed.

And if the wheels been set back to where it was it shouldn’t need SAS calibrating

Was the steering wheel straight before the T..R.E was replaced ?

Hi
Yeah wheel was straight before mot and no lights on.
After he straightened the wheel they had the diagnostic on it , would that recalibrate the sas?
Cheers

Would only recalibrate it if the calibration program has been "enabled". It won't do it if you don't tell it to.

It would if they ran the appropriate function,
And if their diagnostic machine had that function…..

But with no clue what the fault codes are,we don’t know if that’s the actual fault anyway…….
