Temp gauge not working

Postby George Liquor » Fri Feb 02, 2024 3:59 pm

Since i had the head skimmed the temp gauge is not working, i have replaced the sensor and checked the fuses, something i noticed is when the temp sensor is unplugged the traction control light comes on and goes off when the temp sensor is plugged back in? if i remember correctly traction control light came on on my old van once when it over heated, are these 2 things connected in some way, also does the temp sensor sit in water or is it just into the metal of the cylinder head i ask because it was dry when i took the old one out. By the way its easier to remove the sensor with a ring spanner with a slot cut out for the wire than it is with a socket, much easier,
Thanks, George

Assuming Euro-4..?? You've not told us what model Transit you have..?? FWD or RWD..?? If Euro-4 the cyl head temp sensor is "dry".

Its a 2011 2.4 100 bhp rwd mi lud, the gauge was working fine before the head skim, cant weigh it up, so the sensor goes into a dry void then? i suppose the new sensor could be faulty is there a test i can do

Did they skim and return your head, or did they give you another one which doesn't have the same sensor (Euro 5?)

It was the same head i took in, i see your point though. Something i dont think i have mentioned is as i was grasping at straws trying to find a reason not to have a blown head gasket when the system was pressurising , i took out the thermostat valve to test it, it did not work i did the usual boil it in a pan test and it did not open so i cut the guts out of it and put the outer ring with its seal back in so now i have no thermostat and because i no longer have a temp gauge i drive round with the heater on low so i might be forewarned of over heat or coolant loss, i am curious as to why everything worked before, no overheat and a working heater if the thermostat wasnt working, am i missing something
