mk9 transit 2023 ms-rt cargo lights not coming on

Hi All, just bought a 2023 ms-rt transit and loving it. But if i leave the van and come back to get something out of the side door, in the dark, no lights come on in the cargo area? If i open the drivers or passenger doors, then they come on. But that does not make sense. I go to the side door to get stuff and expect the cargo area lights to come on with out having to keep opening the drivers door or using the key fob every time. Any ideas?

What does the owners manual say about it..?? Are there any switches on the lights themselves..??

Do they light if you open the rear doors? If so maybe your side door switch is bad, it's on body, by the back of the side door.

I am at a lose with this, i have tried every way to switch the courtesy lights switch in the cab and still the rear lights dont come on when you open the rear door, if the van has been left unlocked. If you have just got out of the cab or just unlocked the van, then they come on with side door opening. But if you are onsite and have left the van unlocked and are coming back to load it etc, when you open the side doors, no lights come on.

Sounds like the battery saver relay,which shuts down accessories ,usually after 30 mins is doing its job.
It’s to prevent the battery being flattened if the doors are left open continually.

There can’t be many people who can,or dare leave any van unlocked, while they aren’t with or near it,so for most people this is never going to be a problem.,
