Well it isn't like that video i linked to up there
it's much simpler ..
No needle bearings
No hexagon keeper spring on the inside of housing ,,, and you cant take each individual bearing off the tripod
Just undo the boot clips , then it pulls out ..you then just take a circlip off, to take the tripod off the shaft. hammer off with aluminium or brass drift, so that you can remove the old boot and replace with new.
There wasn't much grease left in it ..what was there was like black oil ..about an egg cup full.
i washed everything in paraffin ,
The bowl picture is of the tripod ..before i squeezed the grease in to each roller bearing with my palm..just kept doing that over and over ..as i had no idea how much the paraffin had washed out..as the bearing shields were in the way..could not see.
You have to be clean doing this ...despite the stuff being very messy ..you don't want even one tiny bit of grit or dirt in there ..as it will be there forever causing damage.
quantity of grease used was 200 gram, most went into the chamber in picture 2
And yes drive shaft is heavily pitted and wasted away ..think its just about good for 75 horse power, once assembled it was painted
Sorry about the crap pictures ..camera has packed up and i'm making do with phone .
