The axle you have is a "non" Dana axle, in the Mk6 it was only available in 3 ratios...4.63, 5.13 & 5.14.

The Mk7 axle is a Dana "full floater" axle and 9 ratios are available for them. They can be fitted to a Mk6 but it's not a straight swap.

The Mk6 TDCi 2.4 135 came with a Dana axle...might be an easier option if you can find one...

Hey Joe,
How did you go with the upgrading your diff to LSD?
Looked for that new thread you were going to start, but can't see one.
I have similar to you, 2004 VJ 115PS 350L but not camper, just cab chassis truck, but definitely want to try and convert to LSD. Been stuck going over kerbs too many times

Sorry Greg, haven't got any further with this project. It seems that there are no alternative diffs for our rear axle.
However, the disk brake VM rear axle has alternative options. That rear end will fit the VJ with minor adaptation.
Let me know if you go ahead and fig one. I have some other priorities at the moment - building a new house....

The rear axle from the ranger has the correct dimensions and is lockable only thing that needs doing is to transfer and weld the original struts bracket back on it.

My mate instead made a smaller bracket on top of the axel and uses a stubbie strut.

I plan to do that and have a pair of tires fitted with tractor tires for some serious traction, I think that combined with a spacer on the front struts enough. Even that with mud tires would do really well

Which model Ranger are you referring to and which continent (they are not all the same in different countries)?
Our Rangers here have a 50mm narrower track than the Transits - as far as I can tell. Would the Transit axles and hubs fit into the Ranger rear axle? I certainly don;t want different stud patterns front and rear lol.

Sure I'm pointing out the "bloody obvious" here But can you use that 50mm difference to fit an adapter plate to bring the stud pattern back to then same as the fronts ? the sort of thing the kids use to flare there rare wheels ?
