Remote Fob Locks But Doesn't Unlock Central Locking

Postby sme » Wed Aug 07, 2024 11:47 am

Hi All,

My central locking has just started playing up in a weird way! I have a Mk1 Transit Connect (2003). I have the SWB without a side door.

I have a separate remote fob (not integrated into the key) to control the alarm and central locking, but it's started behaving very strangely!

- Pressing the button on the remote fob turns off the alarm, but the central locking does not unlock.
- I can use the key in both the driver and passenger door to unlock the van, but it unlocks both doors (as in the central locking works via the key, but not the remote fob).
- The central locking also works when locking/unlocking manually when inside the van.
- The remote fob still locks the van (all doors lock on central locking and the alarm activates).

So the issue is that the central locking has stopped working only when unlocking the van from the remote fob! It was working last week, now suddenly not!
I've also charged up the van battery to make sure the electrics have good power. The issue also happens on my second backup remote fob so it doesn't seem to be related to the remote fob itself. Most odd!

Has anyone seen this before and got any advice? Thank you muchly in advance for any gurus able to help solve this mystery! :-)

I'm also having the same problems and blame 5g..on mine it can unlock and lock ..but sometimes does not ..unless you just keep the fob pressed and probably waiting for a gap in the 5g. lately can take up to 30 seconds

To prove the theory ..find a place were the 5g isn't strong like in a valley or wait until gone 1:30 am in the morning and you'll be able to lock and unlock at will.

What will help ..a strong keyfob battery ..this does not mean, buy another cheap new one from poundland ..it means when you buy them look at the dates ..some of these so called new batteries are up to 10 years old.

They will have an expiry date on them, if ten years into the future ..then it is brand new and fresh ..the present lot off batteries in my poundland has 2025 expiry...that means they could be nine years old.

Up to two weeks ago ..my local "home bargains" stores had expiry dates on them of 2024

i waited for 6 months for new stock ..when it came, they had 2032 on them ..going to fit them soon..and hopefully cure the problem.

Not using the key fob will wear your keys out ..then you are in more trouble ..they are soft and do wear.

all the best.mark

Just to close this out - The problem is fixed and I can assure everyone that it wasn't 5G!

I noticed that my drivers side brake light was out. The tail light element was still working, just the brake light element was not working. A quick trip to Halfords to replace the bulb and hey-presto the brake light is working and my remote fob starts to unlock the central locking again! God know's what's going on with the wiring, but problem solved and I didn't have to wear a foil hat or anything! :D

Cheers!
