Found this, thought it may interest some here..
A catch can is device for catching oil that finds its way out of the engine breather system, this ends up in your intercooler / boost pipes, then eventually mixes with the exhaust gas at the EGR ..forming tarry carbon deposits within in it, then moves on to coating the inlet ports with this muck.
This idea may save money ..it's Using air/ water separator commonly sold for a compressor and air lines in a garage/workshop. these are not only cheaper but are also better made / well built than most so called catch cans.
