Mk6 2.4 90ps duratorq TDDI sudden rough idle/knocking

Postby nickax » Wed Aug 21, 2024 9:32 pm

Hi chaps (and chapesses)

My low mileage, but ageing 2003 bus-camper conversion has suddenly started playing up

For a while, I’ve had a nagging feeling it was a bit down on power, but a couple of mornings ago I went to start it and although it started instantly, was very, very rough, firing on three maybe, then stalling after a few seconds

Revving it a bit I can keep it running but it sounds terrible,

Tried again a few times over the last couple of days and still bad … one evening I took out the air filter which was damp .. and was able to drive it around the block, once warm, the idle was stable but there was still a bit of a knock.
Dried the air filter in a low oven and reinstalled the following morning, and were back to terrible running and stalling on tick over.

I can’t see any splits or cracks in hoses, they seem generally to be in very good Nick

I have ordered a new fuel filter as it’s due anyway … don’t really know where else to look

We had it on a very cheap and nasty ODB2 reader and it wasn’t giving any codes

Is there a diagnosis checklist somewhere ?

Do these have a fuel pressure regulator .. sorry, I am clueless

Thanks in advance

Your OBD-2 reader is useless on a Mk6, they are "NOT" OBD-II compliant and 99% of the newer readers won't work. The Mk6's are EOBD. You need Forscan on a Windoze laptop and one of their compatible cables.

He hasn't been back since he posted....we'll probably never know. He joined the forum in 2018 and only has 10 posts total since then.
