Mk7 Euro4 FWD 5-speed to 6-speed gearbox conversion

Postby Cider Andy » Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:24 pm

Long time no post!

I have a couple of Mk7 FWD vans each with a 5-speed gearbox and may be looking to upgrade one or both to 6-speed. Obviously, I'll need a gearbox and gear lever assembly, but what else will I need?

Gear change cables?
Mountings?
Clutch?
Concentric slave cylinder?
Flywheel (both have a solid flywheel)?
Driveshafts?
Anything else?

Presumably it's been done before but I couldn't find anything relevant in the forum search for a FWD.

Cheers.
Andy.

I wouldn't bother mate , not the best of gearboxes and you won't save any fuel almost certain final drive gear ratio is same between 5spd and 6sp, if your doing lot of motorway driving fit 16in wheels with a higher sidewall height that's what I done

As our Andz said, waste of time...nothing to be gained by going to a 6 speed....the 5 speed box is more robust anyway.

Cheers gents.

Hmm, I thought 6th gear was quite a bit taller on the FWD (I know they're about the same, or even worse, on the RWD)? But I didn't know the 6-speed was more fragile.
