MK6: Odd squeaking noise when turning engine off?

Postby cam.on.wheels » Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:04 pm

Hi guys

My 2010 MK6 makes this squeaking noise when turning off the engine.

https://we.tl/t-AcFn48YEHf

Any idea what could be the problem - and if it's possible to fix it without having to take it to the mechanic?

Appreciate any help

If it sounds like a hacksaw then its probably the EGR doing its self cleaning cycle

I think that might actually be it

Just googled a bit and it seems that others are experiencing the same thing

There doesn’t seem to be a solution to get rid of the sound though..

Anyways, thanks for solving the mystery!

Sounds like to me the engines rocking on its worn mountings when you turn it off ...only confirmed by someone else turning it off and you looking at the engine to see what is happening.

other causes --
1. if rear wheel drive ---cooling fan clutch worn. or touching shroud at turn off.
2. if AC left on when stopped --- its the clutch on the compressor malfunctioning.
3. Aux belt too tight.

If it is the EGR doing its "self clean" it's normal..

Check the crank pulley rubber, they fall apart with monotonous regularity.

As our MinorMatt said....they are often worse, the Mk6 Euro-3 has a much better crank pulley....they are interchangeable on the 2.4's too.

Mine fell apart in my driveway one morning as I was on my way to work....I fitted a cheap ebay pulley and it has been there ever since...has lasted longer than the original Ford item.

Good to know LK. Is there anything you dont know about transits ! Incredible knowledge

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Double-Cranksh ... d_source=1

This is the type i have on mine , maybe not original but it dont have the big rubber section just a thin maybe 10mm width of rubber. Are these more reliable than the ones with the wide section damper ?

LOL...there's chaps on here who have "much" more Transit knowledge than myself. I know lots of useless crap, ask my missus.

The pulley you've linked to is for a Mk7 FWD....the OP has a Mk6 RWD, they only have the one serpentine belt.
