Access to refit cabin air duct

Postby npjrogers » Sat Feb 10, 2024 4:28 pm

‘96 smiley. I have removed the plastic vent duct driver side RHD to free the hot/cold vent flap. Flap control is now freed but replacing the plastic duct is not going well. Any tips or tricks to avoid dash trim removal would be very welcome.. and REALLY appreciated as hanging upside down at nearly 80 is a tough ask.. (age not temp !! :)

Hi npjrogers.
I too have almost no cold air to driver's side in our Tranny Mk7.
I'm almost as old as you, and ease of access to the hot/cold vent lap is of great interest.
How did it go?
I'm hoping the duct is okay.....
Would appreciate more of your story .....
It's currently 39 or 40ºC here, Perth, WA, so cool air is important as we plan the Big Lap in a couple of months....

'96 smiley is nothing like the Mk7 unfortunately. If your Mk7 has A/C, they can often suffer from a failed "blend door actuator", this is the little motor which moves the door/flap inside the heater unit which directs which way the air goes.....quite common and relatively easily sorted with a new actuator.

The actuator has little plastic gears inside which can break/fail...happens quite often.

The actuator itself lives on the passenger side of the heater/airbox and can be accessed easier with the glove box removed.
