3 button remote maximum reset ?

Hi I have a 2005 2.0di van with c/l and a working 3button remote . I have tried to program a new remote with the 8 times ignition method that does go into programming mode but the new fob will not program. I've read somewhere that you have a max of 4 remotes , is there a way of resetting this as I imagine remotes that have failed in the past where probably thrown away . Am I correct at max 4 or is this a myth?
I do have forscan and have programmed my spare key with this but I would like a working spare 3 button remote to go with it . The new remote was off Ebay maybe no good? Is there a better place to get these remotes from ?

Not to familiar with the mk6 ones but can you not erase old keys and then add your new one ? May need forscan diagnostics you certainly do on mk7. Cheers

Keys and central locking remotes are separate things on a Mk6.

I'm not aware of how many remotes can be programmed, but maybe your 'new' one is a dud, or needs a new battery

Yes you can only have 4 remotes on a mk6.

However, when you programme a remote, it forgets any that arn't programmed in that session. I.e. if you have 2 other remotes you need to programme them in again

I think the ones I was trying to program where indeed duds , I've just tried a mk1 genuine focus key and programmed In straight away . Just need to get it cut now and then I can program it in with forscan .
