Cruise control retrofit

Postby dpsbiker » Thu Jan 09, 2025 5:04 pm

Hi all, I've recently purchased a 2nd hand steering wheel for my 2018 Transit Connect, I do a fair amount of motorway miles and wanted the comfort of cruise control which wasn't included in my lower spec model. The steering wheel I chose was from a 2017 Tourneo which in my mind would be more likely to be compatible and had the additional function buttons and the cruise control module.
Fitting it was no problem and I used a USB adapter with Forscan to enable Cruise Control and the Adjustable Speed Limter (with ASL) in the Engineering 1 (+all editable) screens, followed by 'Write' etc. Unfortunately it won't activate as I'd hoped, nothing happens if I press the cruise control buttons and the Information display between the gauges does not display the Cruise Control Indicator.
Has anyone else had to overcome this problem?

Cheers for any help.

I am far from an expert , but I know when a car has cruise control fitted doesn't it also need to get a signal from the brake and clutch pedal .

I suspect your BCM may not be capable of cruise, especially if it was a "poverty pack" vehicle to start with. You probably need the higher spec BCM.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like more research is required, if it needs higher spec BCM they aren't easily swapped as far as I know which may mean an early end to my upgrade hopes.

Cheers

I ran into the same issue trying to add cruise to my 2019. The BCM now thinks it has cruise but the buttons don't do anything.
