Ford Tourneo custom 2013 mk8 randomly shuts off and won't st

Postby denis napast » Thu Mar 13, 2025 9:19 am

Hello, I have a 2013 Ford touneo custom. It just randomly shuts off, no check engine light. Cranks but wont start until it feels like to start again.

I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, high pressure fuel pump. There were metal shavings in the fuel reservoir and fuel filter housing. Cleaned everything. Wiring and ecu are all okay. I changed the high pressure sensor, mass air flow sensor. Im out of money and patience. The van is being driven more on the tow truck than on the road. I cant take it any more, I just want to fix it up and sell it l finally.

These are the codes that show up on the obd reader

There are certain models usually earlier than 2013, that have a problem with the high pressure fuel pump breaking up internally.
When this happens metal shavings are distributed through out the fuel system.

Don't know if yours is effected others will say so and confirm dates

if so:
Swarf will be in the tank and fuel lines - because of the return fuel system
Swarf will will be in the injectors ..so possibly needs new injectors too .
The high pressure fuel pump will also have to be replaced.

When this happens the whole fuel system has to be cleaned out ..you don't replace anything until that has been done.

wait for more replies

Generally speaking, that only used to be a problem with the finnicky Mk6 TDCi pump :)

Poor connection in fuse box under bonnet that feeds in tank fuel pump/its relay.
(Being as you said you've replaced fuel pump, and high pressure pump,I’m assume the in tank one is new)

Yeah, the pump in the reservoir is brand new. Ill check all the plugs again. Injector are the only ones that werent replaced, but it wouldnt act like that if it was them I think.

Thanks for all the replies
