Ldv convoy no start( immob or ECU)

Postby Normalspeed » Fri Jul 23, 2021 4:30 pm

Doing my head on this one.

2002 ldv convoy, suddenly gave no glow plug light on ignition & won't crank.
It's a duratoq 2.5L diesel.

Searched for immobilizer fuses - only one under ash tray found & seems good
Tested all relays(4 under ashtray( 2 dimmer & 2 supposed crank inhibit/ immobilizer)) + 7 by ECU(one supposedly fuel pump) - all click away. No relays whatsoever in engine bay - just 2 main fuses(50amp)
ECU was damp, the garage took it & sat it on a radiator over winter, but no visible damage or water getting into circuits

Wiring status unknown( cannot easily follow each wire)

Key guy says chip reader not working- so changed , but no affect(blue chip) so put the old one back on.

Have got a full wiring diagram now, but doesn't seem to match up to the terminals & fuses in the vehicle.

All forums point to 'wiring on the fuel pump'. If I could find the fuel pump, I could check this - checked fuel filter wiring though(just to be sure)

The crux of this - van has been down for 11 months now. All happened when a garage I hadn't used before did some welding & removed the passenger footwell panel.
They have now washed their hands, left van roadside to deteriorate with no mot.

Cannot read any fault codes(no communication from obd socket)(while booster attached to battery)
Imobiliser light flashes as normal(every 3-4 seconds, even when attempting to crank). Goes static just before battery dies.
No glow plug light
No crank
Only sound of one relay clicking on when turning ignition.

Any help would be good(even just a good location of where this fuel pump supposedly is).

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the same issue after removing passenger footwell plastics to change my wiper motor? I have a 2004 LDV with the 2.4 Duratorq eninge thanks

He hasn't been back since the day after he originally posted...so we'll never know.

I will have to investigate the hard way then, I think its probably a faulty relay but may try bypassing the immobiliser to see if that get's me back up and running?

Just so you don't waste too much time trying, it's not a practical proposition to override the immo on a duratorq engine, as it's built into the VP30 injection pump.
Convoys have a notoriously leaky windscreen, so anything situated in the footwell is prone to water corrosion.

Is the PATS LED functioning as normal :?:

Hi , I'm having the same issue with mine and I've replaced everything apart from the ignition sensor ring , front wiring loom and fuel pump , I've even had the PCM data cloned to a new unit and I've also had the transistors replaced In the pump EDU , if your still trying to locate the diesel pump it's on the passenger side of the engine you will need to remove the EGR and the intake manifold off to get at the pump plug and wiring , I've got 2 codes on my P1563 and P1695 one points to open circuit , short circuit to battery or ground the other code points to a CAN error CAN bus fault loss of communication PCM/FIP FIP has identified a fault that could damage your engine FIP requesting engine stop .

I'm still trying to find the cause of this problem but running out of time now as the Insurance is about to expire and the van is on the road. I'v checked all relays etc and all seemed OK I did note that the brown wire in the Blue multiplug was very corroded and pulled out so I am not sure if this was making a connection? After checking the wiring diagram I noted this was the starter relay so I tried jumping the relay with the loose wire and this did indeed activate the starter motor. I have had the fuel filter off etc so may need to bleed the fuel system of air but if I do this and try cranking the engine by jumping the starter what are the chances it will start? I have run out of fuel previously and got the engine running again spraying some Easy Start into the air intake and using jump leads to another battery so the enginge spins over nice and fast which seemed to work well. I'm going to take the fuel filter off and fill with diesel as well but if anyone has any other advice then let me know. I'll update if I have any luck in a a few days Cheers
