Replacing a heated windshield by a standard one (MK7)

I have a crack on my front windshield on the MK7 Ford Transit (2013). The window-repair-people quoted me 2000€, of which 1500€ for an original heated windshield. I can see 200-500€ windshields online and I was wondering if replacing it with a non heated windshield or an aftermarket windshield would lead to problems? The guy on the phone said that it would fry my electronics, but I'm skeptical. Any experiences?

The guy on the phone knows nothing, of course you can fit a standard screen, just make sure that you isolate the electrical connectors at the base of both the A pillars, and/or take the two actuating relays out from the engine bay fuse box.

Having said that, when I enquired about fitting a heated screen in mine, which doesn't have one, it was less than £500 for the glass

You're being ripped off...go to a reputable screen place....you can buy a complete van with a heated screen for less than 2000quid.

As Al says remove the relays not a mk7 but my mk6 without heated screen had the wiring behind the trim and was only activated when I fitted the switch and relays I’d pull the plug off the back of the switch as well.
As knobby said they are trying to rip you off.

He maybe in the EU as his quote is in Euros
A local company to me can depending on your insurance company can do it without you having to pay the access.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I obviously am not paying 1500€ for a 200 000km van, especially since aftermarket parts go for 250€ online.

I went to a reputable company (Carglass, probably the biggest and most well known one). The person on the phone said that "they only use the same, original reference already fitted in the car" + some mumbo jumbo about quality and reliability.

The local shop I work with here said they don't do window replacement, and suggested I get some insurance and trick them into paying for the full repair. Yeah... I'm not doing that. (I don't have glassbreak insurance, only third party liability).

The good news: I just passed inspection with only a "remark", meaning I have 2 years to find another shop and get it fixed. Who knows, car may not even run anymore by then.

I do windscreens in the uk, so no good for you, I think you must be in Europe, look for smaller independent companies, I supply and fit transit mk7 windscreens heated with rain sensor for 250 pounds just heated much the same price, non heated 140, its creates problem if you have a rain sensor, if you do you have a rain sensor you may as well go for heated with rain, if you have no sensor you can save some money and have a plain one no problem, if you shop around a bit more you should find plenty about at these prices, the nationals are very overpriced so they can pretend to give insurance companies 70% discount, most people have insurance, its just what they do

I've an issue with rain sensor.
Looks like van has had a bash above windscreen, so possibly replaced. Heated screen seems to work, cleared ice in cold snap we had.
BUT . . . . Rain sensor activates, and cycles for what feels like eternity.
Is there a way to de-activate the sensor without compromising wipers . . . . ? (where even is the sensor, wires..? part of the heat trace?)

I have Forscan, but not experienced enough to go experimenting in computers.
