i thought the whole drive was designed like an "oldham coupling"

a coupling designed to take up out of wack alignment

So there's a plastic bit that sits between the two? Or the VP key moves?

So, i think it's safe to say that if the destructions say that in no circumstances at all should it be tightened if there's a gap between the block and the pump then the keyway that it fits into has movement...

This is good information.

Thank you

No
It means that if the pump doesn't sit flush to the head before tightening the bolts then the pump drive is not engaged into the slot in the end of the cam.

If this is the case then the drive is sitting against the end of the cam and you risk pushing the cam forward when winding the pump in with the bolts.

Progress tonight again...

So. The cam has shifted 5mm towards the belt end. This is what's stopping the pump from being spun and therefore no pedal.
It is possible to push the cam back to where we want it, and secure the pump on in place and have vacuum. However, run the engine for around 30 seconds and the cam makes it way back over to the 5mm out of position that it was and gives no vacuum.

This is absolutely confusing the life out of me and I cannot understand how this is happening or why.

I'm confident that the cam hasn't been pushed out of place by doing up the bolts with the pump key out of position, it really is a long way out when it's not in right and far too obvious.
The van has also been run and driven for around 100 miles, including having had it's MOT and all sorts like this too.

@metaworker0 are you able to find the pictures of the cam setup for me please so I can see what I'm looking at without the need to take the cam covers off and see what's been pushed out of place or may have given up? I thought I had downloaded the correct manual a few times but cannot seem to find the one for the 2.0 mk8 which is where you're getting these images from I assume?

The cam keeper/retainer is either loose or damaged letting the cam move forward.

Is that the entire top section like in the 1.5 lumps or is this a smaller individual piece on the 2.0?

@metalworker0 are you able to shed any light.on this from the manual?
Also, if you're able to share a link for the download for that it would be great too please? Have looks through various parts of the forum but haven't found the one for the 2.0 yet as they all seem to link back to the 2.2

there is only an ecoblue custom one available i think ,,,,same engine if fwd

search words "ecoblue manual" will bring up the links to it

in the mean time im looking at solving the problem .

one f which is a querstion

are you still trying to run it with the damaged vacuum pump?

and no1 problem you are going to have is the camshaft assembly is only available as a complete lump ...the rocker cover camshafts, carrier are all as one ..

Re: Another vacuum pump issue

i've looked through the manual ..there is nothing about servicing, disassembly or overhaul of the carrier

only states

Camshaft end float - Axial play 0.025 - 0.060

unless my words search in which i used as each of these words (camshaft , cams , carrier , cam shafts , camshafts) separately in the search of the manual is skipping the relevant bit that is maybe in pictorial form only...the manual is over 3000 pages, not indexed and hard work to scroll up and down so may have missed it.

if that pump drive was running without being engaged ,.,,then that would wear the end of the camshaft and the pump drive both at the same time resulting in an amount of large clearance.
To which the only solution i can think of, is a new cam carrier/ with cam shafts and a new vacuum pump.
Unless something has slipped like a circlip or thrust bearing...there are no disassembly/ schematic or parts diagrams of the cam shaft carrier except for this one ...and as you can see, there is no extra stuff shown. other than gasket, bolts , dowels and sensor

Note the camshaft end float value.
I think yours is slightly out of spec.

Edit: Ah shite compression of image but the values are above.

Try going into ford they'll have parts diagrams for your van to work out what you need.

I don't know how the ecoboom cams are held in place but the E4 puma is a flange on the cam that sits in a groove in the head. ImageImage
