OBD Port hidden

Postby sythna » Thu May 22, 2025 10:39 am

Hi

Just bought my second transit and when buying I wanted to hook up my Forscan to it. Sadly, some previous owner must have removed/hidden the OBD port. I am unable to find it from looking and poking around. I am hoping they have not just cut it away but dont see wires hanging so hoping thats not the case. What is the easiest way to trace it? Do I start from the fuse box on passenger side and try and trace where the cables go? Which fuse am I looking at or is there a better way for an amateur? Its a cheap van and I use OBD quite often. Please help.

Hiding the OBD port is a popular anti-theft method, but it's limited as to how far you can move it due to the length of the wires.
You could try fishing around in the area behind the dashboard, between the steering wheel and the door frame, and see if you can't "feel" the socket on the end of a bunch of wires

Thanks. Surely the thieves would be smart enough to find it as well. I will have a look but my first try didn’t seem to find it.

Thieves will always be able to find it, as they can overcome any anti-theft device. The purpose is to slow them down, so that in addition to other anti-theft devices, they give up on the theft attempt, and find something easier.
