Where is it leaking oil from?

Postby sythna » Thu May 22, 2025 11:41 pm

Transit MK7. Lost around 4 litres of oil in around 400 miles.its dripping quite quickly. Cleaned a bit with a hot jet wash but clearly missed some parts. I have made some videos without jacking the car up.

What do you think? Sump?

No loss in power, pulls and no smoke under 3.5 rpm.

Give the engine a good degrease and clean down...hose off, let it dry, start the engine, quick run around the block and the oil leak will then become obvious.

You could also try illuminesant dye and a special torch

Thank you all. Will buy some cans tomorrow and hot wash with a smaller lance. I have dye as well but don’t have the yellow glasses which I am not sure if is needed. Bought another van near me as it was cheap but willing to get this fixed rather than making it someone else problem. My ethics won’t allow me.

I will report back with better, less wobbly slower videos.

Thanks again.

They used to be but I post clean some weeks ago they are mostly dry with minimal oil around the seals. It’s somewhere in the middle and then I suspect it’s the oil sump as well as that’s usually very shiny and wet. Have eaten through 4 liters of oil in around 200 miles now.
