Did the hard starting begin at the same time as the noise / rough idle..?
They could be related or totally not..
When was the fuel filter last replaced for a start.
How does the van drive in general ? Good or not..
What idle rail pressure are you getting?
Does the knock increase with engine speed or RPM or go then come back?
You say the injectors are ok and checked..
My start point would be to check fuel pressure on cranking and idle, 300 bar cranking, 230 at idle.
A run of fuel pump and pilot learns would also be considered. Possibly SCV related but do some checks first as above.
Just a side note, Is the crank pulley ok and not deteriorated ? they can cause noise / vibration
Let us know on the above.
Cheers
Thank you very much for your response!!
Both faults occurred at the same time, meaning it has never had any issues starting or any metallic knocking noises, and one thing came with the other. I know mechanics can be complicated and it might not be related, but both things happened simultaneously.
The sound is louder at idle and is still present, though less noticeable, when accelerating. There's no smoke, just a slight loss of power, but nothing major.
The timing chain and belts are in good condition, and the crankshaft pulley isn’t making any noise.
We’ve pretty much ruled out connecting rod bearings as the oil only has about 1,000 km on it, and when we drained it along with the filter, there were no metal particles.
When we ran diagnostics (no fault was recorded), we measured the common rail pressure, but I don’t remember the exact reading. Thanks for telling me the correct pressure—I'll check it again.
I'm planning to change the diesel filter. I bought the car two months ago, and the seller told me it had less than 5,000 km on it.
On the other hand, I’ve read that the SCV (Suction Control Valve) causes a lot of problems, but none that cause metallic knocking in the injectors. Or am I wrong?
I’m going to change the oil again and install a new MAN diesel filter. I’ll try to remove and clean the SCV to check it.
Thanks again, I’ll keep investigating and hope it’s nothing serious.
