Baffling issues

Postby Lukester147@ » Tue Oct 14, 2025 10:49 pm

Mk7 2014 transit custom. Engine service now light comes on intermittently . Seem to coincide with ABS light. Sometimes engine management light too. Loss of power. But goes away. Stopped van today and engine was making a strange humming noise for good 5 minutes with key out of ignition. Had it on computer and body control module was 1 error. Any suggestions? TIA, I took video of the humming noise.

Never heard that noise before .

1. Stop / Start - i don't know what is fitted to 2014 mk7

One thing that comes with stop/start system on the later ecoblues (mk8 and custom) is an electric pump that pumps coolant to the cabin heater when the engine is stopped. . if it were to malfunction, relay stuck etc, then the pump would carry on running.
Fault code P2600

2. Front Wheel Drive / FWD, ONLY. Your radiator cooling fan is supposed to be running, to cool the engine after its stopped ... which it will do for a couple of minutes after prolonged long journey or in hot summer weather. or slow traffic ... but its trying to do that... but its seized.

3. FWD ONLY - Same as above but fault with radiator fan control unit, which is mounted on or near the fan motor ... Test 2 and 3 - by un-plugging it.

4 . Something wrong with the cooling system .. getting too hot / overheated .. and you are hearing "heat soak" causing, sort of a "water hammer"

5. A stepper motor controlled device such as EGR or turbo actuator .. has a relay at fault.

all the best.mark
