Fuel & oil additives – what do you actually use (if any)?

Postby Goundry » Sat Dec 13, 2025 9:34 pm

Hi all, just looking for some real-world opinions on additives, whether that’s fuel additives, oil additives, or anything else people use on their Transits.

For a bit of context, I do use additives myself. I regularly use Millers diesel fuel additive in the tank, and when I change the fuel filter I run Liqui Moly Diesel Purge through the system rather than just pouring it in the tank. I’m not expecting miracle cures or anything like that, I’m just interested in what people actually use long term and whether they’ve seen genuine benefits or any downsides.

Do you use fuel additives all the time, only occasionally, or not at all? Are there any oil additives you rate or avoid completely? Do you only use certain products at service time, or never touch additives in general? Or in your experience are they a complete waste of money?

Would be good to hear from people who’ve actually put miles on these vans rather than just repeating hearsay.

Cheers

Stoped using oil additives years ago I use the correct grade of oil and change the oil at no more then 6000 miles even with modern synthetic oils only used fuel additives to get though a mot new fuel filter full of additive .
The last car I used it on was Miler’s diesel additive on a mk4 1.8 td escort and it did make a difference on a long straight road that i traveled on late at night ( coming home from the late shift) and driving it flat out it was 3 mph faster with it .

Pretty much the same here, i don't use oil additives, i just do regular changes, fuel additives i use every 4th tank or so, more often if they are on special offer  usually redX, just cos ive used it for decades, for an MOT helping hand i use forte, only cos it's what my parts store stocks and it works , as well as any other brand i expect :?

Yes bortaf used forte it’s what the local Ford dealership use to sell and at work in the days of the mk 2 escort the original redx we had a 5 gallon drum of it every thing with a carburettor got it every time the air filter came off the boss was a big believer in it
