2022 185 diesel code P24C7 error

Postby Tourneo custom » Sun Feb 08, 2026 1:29 pm

Hi, I am new to this forum but hope to find help here.
I am from Denmark and in 2022 we got a brand new Ford Tourneo Custom 185hk diesel build as a handicap van to help our child who got a wheel chair. We have loved the van and it a great car to get around with all his stuff. We understand is the same car as a Transit Custom.
We have now gone 67000 km and got our first issue. We got a P24C7 error when i connect the code reader and I can clear the code but after a few weeks its back.
I work with wind turbines ad perform trouble shooting and I was thinking if its was possibke to messure ohm on the exhaust sensor to verify before replacement?
After looking around its seems like there is 3 sensors in the exhaust system with different values.
Would it be possible to see live values with a iphone scanner? and what would the sensor name be?
I am looking fr advice on the P24C7 error code and what could be the solution.
I could go to the local Ford dealer and have their workshop help but in Denmark its very costly and if its just replacing a sensor I would like to save the cost of 3-500 punds at the local dealer just to get a read out.
Thanks

Bank 1 sensor 4 is it 3000 degrees plus ... would be molten if at that temperature!

Then my other info contradicts this
and says your fault code is for the nox sensor (nitrogen oxide) - which isn't a temperature sensor

it may be that Bank 1 sensor 4 at 3000 degrees plus is this nox sensor

Dont know how to test nox sensor, it comes with its own module, this guy is usually spot on , mondeo .. but same principles, he calls it a lamda one .. really confusing now :)

Very confusing that its called a nox temperature sensor sometimes,

Me thinks the maybe the sellers are confused as well.

So i asked google ... why is a nox sensor called a temperature sensor

Answer

A NOx sensor is sometimes referred to in the context of high-temperature exhaust monitoring because it must be heated to extreme temperatures (roughly
or higher) to function correctly. It requires an internal, computer-controlled heating element to reach operating temperature, which is essential for measuring emissions in hot diesel or gasoline exhaust, making its operating principle heavily dependent on heat.

Integrated Heating Element: The sensor operates optimally only when it reaches a specific high temperature, requiring a built-in heating element that is managed by the engine control unit.
High-Temperature Device: Because they function in the exhaust stream, NOx sensors are engineered to withstand extreme thermal conditions.
Operating Principle: Similar to wideband lambda sensors, NOx sensors utilize high-temperature ceramic materials (like Zirconium Oxide) that require heat to allow oxygen ion transport.
Distinction from EGT: While they operate at high temperatures, a NOx sensor is distinct from a dedicated Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor, which specifically measures temperature for component protection, though both are often used in the same exhaust systems.

So there you go check wiring and multiplugs first.. as may be expensive

That's it .. not my knowledge but others and google

hope it the right diagnoses for you - if it is let us know

all the best.mark

Thank you Mark, that sounds really reasonable to me, thank you, I will start hunting for a part number.
