Help Please Locked Out ~ MK7 TRANSIT

Postby Mu733b » Mon Mar 02, 2026 6:41 pm

Hello All ;

I have a mwb mk7 2.2 fwd euro 4 transit

my sliding door always honks so trying to be a clever c*** after engine maintenance works I tried to short the sliding door pins to see if it would stop shorting , i did bottom to top ~ nothing still honked, I then did top to bottom and it honked still, i tried middle to top or similar order and it honked and locked still

annoyed i shut the door closed , afterwards i found out that all doors are locked now and it doesn't want to unlock and let me in, not even with manual key,

if i press unlock buttons lights flash as if doors are unlocked yet all doors are still locked and of course if i try to lock it , no actuations of motor locks are heard and it doesn't unlock

when trying to use the key in door to unlock it goes clockwise but not anticlockwise to unlock cab or rear almost as if the van is trying to lock itself against my key turn

i am thinking removing battery ect may reset it , but for now i am stuck,

hopefully you wizards can tell me ,what i have done/why it is stuck like this and how best to proceed (i have to try and get it working tonight for works tomorrow)

i am guessing removing a central locking fuse or similar may help reset it but they are in cab and cab is locked, apart from shorting main terminals on alternator i'm not sure what else to try

i will try to short start solenoid shortly after publishing this post in hopes van will start and allow me to unlock cab doors then

The honk is an "audible miss lock" warning.
Morning it's noticed that one or more of the locks has not locked. Or is not in a position to lock.

For the side door it's often just a misaligned door so pins are not striking the contacts correctly.

Shorting out has likely blown the fuse as the 3 contacts are:
Power for lock,
Power for deadlock
Power for unlock.
In it's neutral state all pins are connected to neutral/earth.

To gain access it's a choice of manual door lock, if still connected and not seized.
Pop a window out.
Get a locksmith/AA/RAC to wedge door open to reach inner door handle.
Or on good authority a 9" grinder to the roof also works.

the lock doesn't work because you don't use it, it probably seized up a bit, squirt a load of wd40 or something similar into lock and wiggle your key back and forth gently. If it doesn't work take the drivers side window out, as already posted, they come out without to much bother and open the door from the inside.

Have you used the door lock successfully at any previous point in your ownership?
Can you feel the mechanism "click" as you turn the key?
Have you tried any form of loose all penetrating oil in the lock?

The receiver will still be picking up the key press and triggering the lock/unlock relays but if the actuator fuse is blown from the door contacts being sorted it won't drive the mechanism motors.

As stated an auto locksmith or AA/RAC may have tools to prize the door open enough to reach the inner door handle.

makes sense yes i agree the motor fuses likely blown, yes i used key fob in door a few days ago , it is not seized almost like the van is holding it locked to stop me opening it, no resistance when turning clockwise , anticlockwise it is like it wont turn without breaking key, shame they put the fuse for the central locking motors inside the cab and not in fuse box in engine bay as i have access to that

fuse designations and locations are in the owners manual

google --- transit with year with engines size

something like this

2011 ford transit 2.2 owners manual

and it will be right there at the top of the search a link that takes you to the owners manual on the ford site ---- FREE download

Not sure if this is still relevant or not but a good resource.

If you don't have your manual you can download as metalworker mentioned from the ford site.
