Please can anyone throw light on this

Postby Bigbazza123 » Sat Mar 14, 2026 3:47 am

I have a 2015 transit custom 2.2
I have new injectors fitted and new turbo fitted by last keeper but nothing in form of service history to back this up but the turbo does look new
Ok so my problem is this
Everyone I go up a hill it’s a struggle sometimes have to drop into 2nd gear
There are no warning lights showing
I have noticed faint puffs of greyish dark smoke
And that no cars will get close to rear of van as it must stink pungent
I’m going to get new fuel/ air filter done in couple of days fresh oil castrol magnatec and filter
I have booked van in for a mechanic to take a look at it but not until end of the month
IS anybody able to tell me if I’m missing anything
Also the dpf was cleaned but I have no proof of this
Any advice please

could be anything and guess work can be expensive, Diagnostic equipment thats compatible with transits like FORSCAN will be required even though no warning lights, doing the service is a must if no paperwork
think MetalMark already mentioned in February to get it "scanned"

All i can say: if its had new injectors,if its been done right - fitter would need to code the injectors with the numbers that are written on them. then he to does a re-learn procedure with diagnostic scanner like forscan.

Turbo - initial failure is sometimes caused by failure of oil supply, after a high mileage or oil change neglect.
The oil supply to the turbo has a filter in the crankshaft main bearing journal - impossible to change without major engine disassembly.. the guy who fitted the turbo should have checked the oil supply was adequate.

Turbo actuator - VGT Actuator Position Learn- 2.2 requires the turbocharger actuator to be "learned" or calibrated by the Engine Control Unit (PCM). with the software on a high end diagnostic reader like forscan or snap-on.

Leaks -- turbo boost pipes can leak, this particular van of yours sometimes gets a hole in the boost pipes around about the alternator area - whistling will sometimes be heard.

EGR - can fail .. get stuck in a partially open position .. so dumping boost pressure from the turbo.

it would help if you told us the mileage, the only non intrusive way to tell if oil changes have been neglected is put a boroscope into the rocker cover and look for build of sludge - note: fords oil change intervals are too long.

all the best.mark
