Alternator issue

Hi All

The alternator on my 1992 diesel is not charging the battery...in fact does not appear to be putting out any charge, but the charging light on the dash is not coming on. Am I missing something or is this just a dead alternator (it is only three years old) ?
Is it more likely to be the voltage regulator? If so where is that located and how can I test it?

Maybe check the bulb in the speedo, or the wiring to it If the warning bulb circuit isn't complete, then the alternator won't charge

I didn't either, till I took the speedo out of one of my vans to try and find out why the odometer didn't work. After 4 days of short stop/start delivery runs, the battery went flat!
I put the speedo back in, and it started charging again, but I never did fix the odometer

Well, I have checked the bulb...in fact I exchanged it as a trial with one of the others that is working, but it failed to light up. So I assume there is a fault in the circuit somewhere. I also researched just to be sure that there is no fuse in the circuit. It is beyond me, so I will have to take it in to be checked out.
Unless there are any other ideas?
