130 rear wheel bearing change......

Postby Infectus-Guy » Sat Nov 26, 2005 10:31 pm

Hey guys,
I've just bought a pretty straight H reg 120 (with a 130 axle fitted) for £100 and am chuffed to bits with it. No tax or MOT but there's nothing seriously wrong with it, the engine is sweet!!! It's gonna haul my bands gear around no problems!
The thing is i don't have a manual and need to do the rear o/s wheel bearing. The outer plate has two recesses which take what look like a two pinned tool, this isn't such a problem because I can make one easily. I've already bought a new bearing of course.
What should i look for once i'm inside though? Any pitfalls I should look out for or is it a pretty straight forward job?
Thanks for any help,
Guy

I assume its single wheel?SWB..LWB..haynes manual shows some pics which may be helpful.dont look very difficult to do.that piece you see I think is the halfshaft end this come off with the halfshaft.u need to remove the brake drum then the halfshaft and the bearing is under that.manual not to dear.I think the left side has a left hand thread and the righ a right hand thread.

Guy have you done this yet?
I took the hubs off a swb axle today - think it was a mk2 :? there all similar!
it was pritty strait forward infact the hardest part was getting the drums off
like jay says watch out for the handed threads, i used a chisel to undo the hub nut - i may try to get the correct socket to tighten it back up! although on the mk3 this might be different and use a standard socket :?

but all in all an easy job for any amatuer mechanic to take on!!! :D

a haynes 3 spanner rating

On an 86-91 (Mk3) vehicle with the small axle, the hub nuts should be a 12 sided item with a metal locking section which is hammered into the groove on the axle tube.

A standard socket will do the job.
The near side is a left hand thread.

Once you the hub nut undone, tap the hub to move it off the tube, The bearing is a single roller type and it's pressed into the hub from the ½shaft side not the seal side.

Ouch, Insurance isnt cheap when it comes to the music industry, ask me i have a mobile DJ business, they say its because bands and us guys are more of a risk because we might take a chance when it comes to drink drive issues...as for the rest, i cant help you as I have never done one..yet
